Lecture Tour by Outstanding Science and Technology Commissioners Held at Our University
On April 11, a lecture tour by outstanding science and technology commissioners in Hebei Province was successfully held at our university. Du Yuechang, Level II Inspector of the Department of Science and Technology of Hebei Province, Liu Haisheng, Level II Inspector of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hebei Province, Xu Zhice, Vice President of our university, and other leaders from the organizing institutions attended and addressed the event.
The lecture tour aimed to review the important instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping on the exemplary deeds of Comrade Li Baoguo, cherish his memory, and learn from his noble spirit of caring for the people, working diligently, striving for excellence, and selfless dedication. Under the theme of "Upholding Original Aspiration for Agriculture, Rural Areas and Farmers, and Promoting Vitalization through Dedicated Practice", the event featured science and technology commissioners sharing inspiring stories of disseminating advanced technologies, fostering prosperous industries, and boosting farmers' incomes, as well as exchanging typical experiences and effective practices. It was designed to inspire more sci-tech workers to follow the example of Comrade Li Baoguo, voluntarily dedicate themselves to the cause of serving and benefiting the people, and provide strong scientific, technological and talent support for the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas and the building of a strong agricultural country.
In his address, Vice President Xu Zhice pointed out that the science and technology commissioner system is an institutional arrangement originating from grassroots exploration, meeting the needs of the people and embodying practical innovation. It adheres to the principles of deploying talents to the frontline, sending science and technology to rural areas, and serving agriculture, rural areas and farmers, encouraging sci-tech workers to write their research papers on the land of our motherland in the new journey. He emphasized that with the guidance and support of the Department of Science and Technology of Hebei Province and other departments in recent years, our university has focused on industrial demands to provide "three-dimensional services", improved system construction to stimulate impetus, and innovated service models to build brand effects, thus blazing a path of sci-tech assistance with "Hebei University of Science and Technology characteristics". He expressed the hope that the lecture tour would serve as an opportunity to mutually share fine innovative concepts, successful models and valuable experiences, give better play to the university's strengths in disciplines, majors and talents, continuously advance the work of science and technology commissioners, and contribute more from Hebei University of Science and Technology to striving to compose the Hebei chapter of Chinese modernization.
During the event, Lu Zhenqi, Director of the Li Baoguo Spirit Education and Inheritance Center at Hebei Agricultural University, affectionately recounted the touching deeds of Professor Li Baoguo, the "New Fool on the Taihang Mountains", who rooted himself in mountainous areas for 35 years and devoted his entire life to ecological construction and the cause of enriching people through science and technology. Five science and technology commissioners shared vivid stories of rooting themselves in grassroots communities and serving agriculture, rural areas and farmers, winning warm applause from teachers and students present. Liu Jinlong from the College of Food and Biology of our university sought solutions in the fields, promoted agriculture through industry, applied advanced fermentation technologies to the intensive processing of agricultural products, and revitalized the century-old pear tree industry. Professor Gao Hongbo from Hebei Agricultural University led his team to overcome the obstacles of continuous cropping in protected vegetables and promoted green production technologies, helping vegetable farmers increase both yields and incomes. Professor Chang Xuedong from Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology has rooted himself in the Yanshan Mountains for three decades, using technology to boost the processing and value-added of small fruits such as Chinese chestnuts and hawthorns, which have grown into county-level prosperous industries. Wang Zhihao, a Senior Agronomist from Henan Fengcai Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., implemented technological, product and model innovations in the strawberry industry, effectively bridging the "first kilometer" of technological research and development and the "last kilometer" of technology popularization. Su Hailan, a Senior Agronomist from Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, addressed the production needs of medicinal herb farmers, overcoming the challenges of artificial seedling cultivation of Paris polyphylla (also known as "Seven Leaves and One Flower"), turning this endangered medicinal herb into a source of wealth for mountainous areas.
This lecture tour was guided by the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, co-hosted by the China Rural Technology Development Center, the Department of Science and Technology of Hebei Province, and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hebei Province, and organized by our university and Hebei Agricultural University. It was co-organized by the Beijing Guonong Science and Technology Commissioners Innovation Service Alliance and the Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Commissioners Management and Service Association. More than 200 people attended the lecture, including leading officials from science and technology and agricultural and rural affairs departments of Hebei Province and Shijiazhuang City, representatives of science and technology commissioners, representatives of enterprises and cooperatives, as well as teachers and students from our university.
