Our University Holds Discipline Construction and Degree Management Work Arrangement Meeting and the Kick-off Meeting for the Preparation of the Sixth Round Discipline Evaluatio
To promote high-quality development in discipline construction and actively prepare for the Sixth Round Discipline Evaluation, our university held the Discipline Construction and Degree Management Work Arrangement Meeting and the Sixth Round Discipline Evaluation Preparation Kick-off Meeting on March 10th. Vice President Zhang Dongli attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
The meeting focused on key tasks such as discipline evaluation preparation, doctoral program development, ESI discipline advancement, and degree management reform, and outlined comprehensive plans to enhance the core competitiveness of disciplines.
The meeting emphasized that discipline construction serves as the engine and cornerstone of the university’s development. With the goal of “targeted strategies to accelerate discipline growth,” the university will prioritize core indicators including talent cultivation, faculty team building, and scientific research to ensure efficient preparation work for the Sixth Round Discipline Evaluation. All schools are required to further refine discipline directions, strengthen data governance, and guarantee the smooth progress of evaluation preparations.
It was proposed that under the principle of “data-driven, long-term development,” efforts such as optimizing research incentive mechanisms, fostering interdisciplinary team cooperation, and enhancing academic influence should be implemented. These measures aim to achieve new breakthroughs beyond the current three ESI global top 1% disciplines.
The meeting underscored the need to adhere to the “roadmap execution and milestone tracking” approach, striving to meet the establishment standards for doctoral degree authorization points in 3-5 disciplines by the end of this year. Concurrently, the university will conduct a pre-assessment of the doctoral program in Chemical Engineering and Technology, aligning with the internal self-evaluation of degree authorization programs, to ensure successful passage of the Ministry of Education’s specialized qualification review.
The meeting also interpreted four newly revised documents, including Implementation Rules for the Conferment of Master's and Doctoral Degrees at Hebei University of Science and Technology. Key measures include streamlining thesis management procedures, strengthening the responsibilities of graduate advisors and academic degree subcommittees, establishing classification standards for practical achievements, improving selection criteria for outstanding theses, and adopting the CNKI format review tool. These steps aim to elevate thesis quality and increase the number of outstanding master’s theses.
Vice President Zhang Dongli emphasized the importance of establishing a solid foundation for quality through a bottom-line mindset and driving disciplinary advancement with a strategic vision. She stressed the need to strengthen legal awareness, reinforce the responsibilities of advisors, and improve oversight mechanisms to ensure the standardization and rigor of degree conferment processes. Additionally, she called for a focus on addressing major regional demands, dynamically adjusting disciplinary directions, and striving to achieve the strategic goal of “upgrading and advancing discipline construction.”
The meeting was chaired by Wang Yingze, Director of the Discipline and Degree Management Office, with attendance from deans of all schools and relevant staff from the Discipline and Degree Management Office.
