From December 3rd to 6th, a 13-member team of experts from the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate education teaching evaluation, including the project manager and the secretariat, led by Chen Kezheng, President of Qingdao University of Science and Technology, entered HEBUST to conduct assessment of undergraduate education teaching, in accordance with the overall deployment of the new round of undergraduate education teaching evaluation by the Ministry of Education and the work arrangement of the Hebei Provincial Department of Education.

On the morning of December 4th, a briefing meeting for the experts’ campus assessment was held. Zhu Liguang, Secretary of the University Party Committee, warmly welcomed the experts to the university for the undergraduate education teaching evaluation. He briefly introduced HEBUST’s achievements in implementing the fundamental task of moral education, strengthening the core position of undergraduate education teaching, and improving the quality of talent cultivation. He stated that HEBUST would sincerely accept the experts’ opinions, seriously grasp the rectification of feedback issues, and effectively transform the evaluation results into a strong driving force for the high-quality development of the university. Chen Kezheng summarized the online evaluation phase, explained and deployed the campus assessment work, and hoped that the university would not only cooperate with the expert group to complete the campus assessment but also comprehensively think about and summarize all work, benchmarking the goal of building a distinctive and first-class university nationwide, and effectively promote the continuous improvement of talent cultivation quality. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Yanbo, Deputy Leader of the Expert Group and Vice President of North China University of Science and Technology.

During the campus assessment, the expert group collectively visited the university library, the College Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (Engineering Training Center), the Modern Metallurgy and Advanced Steel Materials Laboratory, the Hebei Province Additive Manufacturing Industry Technology Research Institute, the Chemical Engineering and Technology Cold Test Center of the School of Chemical Engineering, the Structural Laboratory of the School of Civil Engineering, and the Tie Yang Art Museum. They also visited two off-campus internship bases, listened to the staff's introductions on relevant situations, and watched the graduation design and innovation and entrepreneurship achievement exhibition as well as the aesthetic education achievement exhibition. The expert group members carried out the evaluation work in groups, entering relevant departments and schools, and comprehensively and in-depth understood the overall situation of the university's education teaching through on-site visits, class observations, material reviews, and discussions.

On the morning of December 6th, an expert opinion exchange meeting was convened. All members of the evaluation expert group, Zhang Huaping, a second-level inspector from the Hebei Provincial Department of Education, and all university leaders attended the meeting.

Chen Kezheng, on behalf of the expert group, provided feedback on the overall opinions of this evaluation. Through the campus assessment, the expert group deeply felt HEBUST’s high regard for the undergraduate education teaching evaluation work and fully affirmed the university's achievements in undergraduate education teaching. The expert group believed that HEBUST adhered to the comprehensive leadership of the Party, strengthened the guidance of party building, implemented the fundamental task of moral education, and continuously consolidated the central position of talent cultivation; HEBUST placed great importance on the work of innovation and entrepreneurship education, the deep reforms of innovation and entrepreneurship leadership groups, coordinated university resources, and achieved innovation and entrepreneurship education for all students throughout the cultivation process; HEBUST deepened the integration of industry and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and improved the resource sharing mechanism; HEBUST prioritized the ideological and political construction of teachers and taken teacher ethics as the first standard for teacher evaluation; HEBUST took moral education as the fundamental task, always adhered to the guiding ideology of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, guided students to love the country, aspire, seek truth, and practice; HEBUST fully implemented the school motto of "Industry and Responsibility," and cultivated high-quality applied talents with the characteristics of "initiative, cooperation, and dedication." The expert group, in line with the evaluation indicators, put forward opinions and suggestions from aspects such as the direction of running a school and the status of undergraduate education, the process of talent cultivation, teaching resources and utilization, construction of the teaching staff, student development, quality assurance, and teaching effectiveness. The members of the expert group also exchanged their individual evaluation opinions based on the inspection during the evaluation and put forward work suggestions.

President Li Tiejun made a statement on behalf of the university. He expressed sincere gratitude and high respect to the experts and the leaders of the Provincial Department of Education who have always cared about and supported the development of the university. He said that this teaching evaluation pointed out the direction for the university to do a good job in evaluation and rectification, which is of great guiding significance for the university to further deepen the reform of undergraduate education teaching, improve the quality of talent cultivation, and the level of running a school. HEBUST sincerely accepts all the opinions feedback by the expert group, continues to strengthen the central position of talent cultivation and the core position of undergraduate education teaching, insists on promoting education, science and technology, and talents as a whole, and with the spirit of "nailing down," grasps the rectification and implementation, and truly turns the rectification effect into a strong driving force to promote the high-quality development of the university, contributing to the construction of a strong educational country and the realization of Chinese-style modernization.

Zhang Huaping, on behalf of the Provincial Department of Education, expressed sincere gratitude and high respect to the experts for their guidance. He emphasized that HEBUST should implement the rectification requirements, accurately grasp the guidance opinions proposed by the experts, seriously formulate rectification plans, establish problem lists, rectification lists, and responsibility lists to ensure the rectification effect. It was necessary to comprehensively improve the level of running a school, further grasp the political direction of running a school, actively explore new university models, improve service capabilities, and leverage development to improve.
