In response to national strategic demands and enhance the connotation development of its disciplines, the School of Electrical Engineering held an establishment ceremony for its Department of Artificial Intelligence in the lecture hall of the Modern Industry Building on December 11. Vice President Li Fatang attended the meeting.

Li Fatang extended his warm congratulations to the establishment of the Department of Artificial Intelligence. He expressed his hope that faculty and students would promote the high-quality development of the department with a strong sense of responsibility, focus on cutting-edge advancements, integrate resources, delve deeply into the fertile field of artificial intelligence, and drive the interdisciplinary integration and development of related disciplines, thereby contributing the wisdom and strength of the University of Science and Technology to national technological innovation and talent cultivation in the field of AI.

Zhou Lei, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, introduced the background and development plan for establishing the Department of Artificial Intelligence. He stated that the school would deepen the distinctive features of the discipline, strengthen integration with industry, expand the recruitment of professional faculty, and ensure mechanisms for talent cultivation, thereby promoting the construction and development of the Department of Artificial Intelligence from multiple aspects.

Cui Yanping, Director of the Academic Affairs Office, outlined the process leading to the department's establishment and read out the official document concerning its founding. Li Qingbo, Deputy Director of the Personnel Office, presented the official nameplate for the Department of Artificial Intelligence.

Shao Shikai, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, delivered a speech, pledging to live up to the trust placed in him by the university and the school. He committed to uniting the faculty from related disciplines, solidifying the foundational construction, and accelerating innovative development. Zhu Moyu, a student representative from the Department of Artificial Intelligence, expressed her determination to delve deeply into the professional field, hone robust skills, and contribute youthful energy to the advancement of artificial intelligence.

Heads of relevant university departments, all faculty members of the School of Electrical Engineering, and all students of the Department of Artificial Intelligence attended the meeting.
