2026 Symposium on Catalysis for Material Surfaces and Interfaces Held at Hebei University of Science and Technology
On April 16, the 2026 Symposium on Catalysis for Material Surfaces and Interfaces, co-hosted by the Hebei Provincial Natural Science Foundation Committee and our university, was successfully held at our school. Under the theme of "Advanced Materials Empowering Green and Low-Carbon Development", the symposium invited 18 distinguished experts and scholars to deliver presentations, including Han Buxing, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries (TWAS), and an outstanding alumnus of the Class of 1982 of our university, as well as Liu Xinying, Member of the South African Academy of Sciences and the African Academy of Sciences. Wang Litao, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Li Fatang, Vice President of the university, presided over the opening ceremony.

During the symposium, Li Tiejun, Secretary of the University Party Committee, held a meeting with Academician Han Buxing. Li Tiejun expressed sincere gratitude to Academician Han for his long-term care and support for his alma mater’s development, briefed him on the major achievements of the university in recent years and the overall development plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, and sincerely invited him to attend the High-Quality Development Conference marking the 70th anniversary of the university. Academician Han Buxing put forward constructive suggestions on refining disciplinary orientations, building high-level research platforms, cultivating top innovative talents, and the coordinated development of basic research and applied research. He stated that he would continue to support the development of his alma mater and contribute wisdom and strength to serving the national innovation-driven development strategy.
On behalf of the university, Wang Litao extended a warm welcome to all participants and introduced the university’s disciplinary development, research platform construction and development plans. She noted that catalysis for material surfaces and interfaces is a key field supporting green and low-carbon development and fostering new quality productive forces. The university will continue to deepen academic cooperation and exchanges with domestic universities and research institutes, promote idea sharing, academic interaction and achievement transformation, comprehensively enhance basic research and applied innovation capabilities, and contribute to serving major national strategies and advancing industrial transformation and upgrading in Hebei Province.

At the symposium, Academician Han Buxing delivered an invited report entitled "Green Chemistry and Technology", systematically elaborating the core role of green chemical technologies in achieving the "Dual Carbon" goals, and sharing cutting-edge achievements and industrialization pathways in the high-value conversion of renewable carbon resources and the construction of green catalytic systems. Academician Liu Xinying gave a report titled "From Coal-to-Liquid to Green Aviation Fuel: Synthetic Technologies for Liquid Fuels in the Carbon-Neutral Era", systematically reviewing the research progress and development trends of upgraded coal-to-liquid technology, distributed synthetic oil and sustainable aviation fuel against the backdrop of carbon neutrality. A number of experts and scholars from Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other universities and research institutions also delivered keynote presentations.
The symposium built a high-level academic exchange platform in the field of catalysis for material surfaces and interfaces in China, strongly boosting the disciplinary development and research innovation capacity of relevant disciplines at our university. It is of great significance for promoting the development of catalysis science and low-carbon technologies for material surfaces and interfaces in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and supporting the research and development of cutting-edge green and low-carbon technologies and industrial transformation and upgrading in Hebei Province.
Nearly 200 experts, professors, teachers and student representatives from more than 20 universities and research institutions inside and outside Hebei Province attended the symposium.
