A few days ago, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Ministry of Science and Innovation of South Africa successfully jointly organized the "China-South Africa Joint Research Center Construction and Operation Experience Online Exchange Conference." More than 50 people including the first-level inspector Ruan Xiangping of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Deputy Director-General of the South African Ministry of Science and Innovation Duterte, the Minister Counselor Shen Long of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, and representatives of the Central-South African Intergovernmental and Inter-agency Joint Research Center attended the meeting. The Deputy Director of the New Energy International Joint Laboratory jointly established by our school and the University of South Africa, and Professor Liu Xinying of the University of South Africa attended the meeting and delivered a speech on behalf of the joint laboratory.

In recent years, China and South Africa have jointly established two national-level joint research centers and five inter-agency joint research centers or cooperative laboratories. The New Energy International Joint Laboratory jointly established by our school and the University of South Africa was established in 2018 and is the first batch of joint research institutions jointly established by the two countries. The laboratory was established in cooperation with the School of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Engineering and the African Energy Institute for Sustainable Development at the University of South Africa. Since the establishment of the center, there have been dozens of visits by both parties and jointly trained more than ten PhD and master students. Affected by the epidemic, the two universities have actively established an online communication mechanism and carried out scientific research cooperation, and have jointly published more than ten academic papers with remarkable results.
